Elder Ministry
The Elder Ministry honors the wisdom of parish seniors and recognizes the integrity of older adults and their contributions to church and community life. Although the Elder Ministry focuses on the needs of our seniors, its activities are open to all. This is a growing community that is active, interested and engaged in the parish, the city and the world.
VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
The Youth Mentoring Program, Sandwich Making, Hunger Program and Knitting Ministries are just a few of the opportunities available to our older parishioners.
BIBLE STUDY AND ADULT EDUCATION
There are many opportunities for bible study and adult education available to our senior members virtually every day of the week.
CHURCH SERVICE LEAGUE/EPISCOPAL CHURCH WOMEN BIBLE STUDY
All women of the parish are invited to participate in the Church Service League’s programs of worship, study and service. Meetings are held at the church on Tuesdays, September through May. The Bible class is taught by the Reverend Mike Wheeler.
SUSAN MOUNT GUILD
The Susan Mount Guild meets at the church at noon on the second Monday of each month from September through May for lunch and a program of general interest. Membership is open to all.
LAY EUCHARISTIC MINISTERS
Our Lay Eucharistic Ministers take communion directly from Sunday services to those who, for health reasons, cannot attend church. It’s a much-needed and highly-valued ministry. Contact Christy James at 314.997.0653 for further details.
HEAVENLY MEALS
Our team of culinary caregivers provides meals for parishioners in the midst of challenging times such as the arrival of a new baby, a health crisis, a death in the family or a move. To request assistance or to join the team, please contact Marian Clifford.
HEALING EUCHARIST
A healing Eucharist is celebrated each Wednesday at 5:30 pm in St. Mary’s Chapel. This moving Eucharist includes the opportunity for Unction and the laying-on of hands.
HOSPITAL VISITATIONS
The Rev. Mike Wheeler shoulders the bulk of hospital and residential care visits and is assisted by other members of the clergy. It has become increasingly difficult for us to find out about parishioners who are admitted to the hospital due to governmentally-imposed privacy regulations (HIPPA) that were implemented in 2003. Therefore, it is more important than ever that family and friends notify the church of any hospital admission. Our goal is to make a pastoral visit within twenty-four hours of being informed of a hospital stay.
To report that a parishioner is in the hospital and request a visit, call the church at 314.721.1502 during regular business hours. After hours and on weekends, you may reach a member of the clergy by calling 314.602.2070.
COMMUNITY OF HOPE
The Community of Hope (COH) is a Christian community of lay chaplains, united in prayer, shaped by Benedictine spirituality and equipped for pastoral ministry. Lay chaplains are taught a ministry of presence to bring comfort and hope to the suffering. The Church of St. Michael & St. George serves as a training center for the Community of Hope. In addition to clergy visitations, Community of Hope chaplains handle a significant number of in-home visits. To join this ministry, or to request assistance, please contact Mary Forsythe.
