Pastoral Care

Welcome! Located in St. Louis, in the close-in suburb of Clayton, we are a parish made alive in Christ and celebrating this life through the Anglican liturgy and sacraments with vibrant preaching and teaching, and beautiful, traditional music. Ours is a welcoming community and we're extremely family-friendly.

The parish family is a lively mix of lifelong Episcopalians and members raised in a number of other denominations and religious traditions. We hope that if you haven't done so already, you'll join us soon!

Pastoral Care Ministries

Associate Rector

The Pastoral Care ministries continue to foster a deeper sense of connection and care with those in our parish family who are ill or who find it physically difficult to come to church on Sunday.

HOSPITAL VISITATIONS

The Rev. Mike Wheeler shoulders the bulk of hospital and residential care visits and is assisted by other members of the clergy. It has become increasingly difficult for us to find out about parishioners who are admitted to the hospital due to governmentally-imposed privacy regulations (HIPPA) that were implemented in 2003. Therefore, it is more important than ever that family and friends notify the church of any hospital admission. Our goal is to make a pastoral visit within twenty-four hours of being informed of a hospital stay.

To report that a parishioner is in the hospital and request a visit, call the church at 314.721.1502 during regular business hours. After hours and on weekends, you may reach a member of the clergy by calling 314.602.2070.

COMMUNITY OF HOPE

The Community of Hope (COH) is a Christian community of lay chaplains united in prayer, shaped by Benedictine spirituality and trained for pastoral ministry. Lay chaplains are taught a ministry of presence in order to bring the presence of Christ to the suffering. In St. Louis, The Church of St. Michael & St. George serves as a training center for the Community of Hope. In addition to clergy visitation, many at-home parish visits are handled by the COH lay chaplains. Please consider joining this very personal and important ministry.

LAY EUCHARISTIC VISITORS

Our Lay Eucharistic Visitors (LEV) continue a ministry of taking communion directly from the Sunday services to those who for health reasons, cannot make it to a Sunday liturgy. It’s a much-needed and valued ministry. Contact Christy James at 314.997.0653 for further details.

HEAVENLY MEALS

Our team of culinary caregivers continues to quietly provide meals for parishioners in the midst of challenging times such as the arrival of a new baby, a health crisis, a death in the family or a move. To request assistance or to join the Heavenly Meals team, please contact Marian Clifford.

ST. MICHAELS KNITTING MINISTRY

The St. Michael’s knitting ministry celebrated its seventh birthday in July. Its mission is to offer tangible and spiritual love, comfort, and prayers to fellow parishioners and friends through knitted objects–mantles of comfort, baby blankets of love and chemo caps. Currently there are 40 knitters. We have knitted and given away more than 200 mantles, 100 baby blankets and many chemo caps. The Canterbury Bookstore has kits for the knitted objects and resource books about St. Michael’s knitting ministry. There is also a section in the Sant Library on knitting. Prayerful knitting nurtures the knitters as well as the recipients. Experienced knitters are welcome, as well as those who are new to knitting. Contact Nicki Gillis at the church or email her at nickigillis@att.net if you are interested in joining the knitting ministry.
