CSMSG Pastoral CarePastoral Care Ministries

Associate Rector

The Pastoral Care ministries continue to foster a deeper sense of connection and care with those in our parish family who are ill or who find it difficult to physically come to church on Sunday.

Hospital Visitations

The Rev. Mike Wheeler shoulders the bulk of hospital and residential care visits, and is assisted by other members of the clergy. It has become increasingly difficult for us to find out about parishioners who are admitted to the hospital due to governmentally-imposed privacy regulations (HIPPA) that were implemented in 2003. Therefore, it is more important than ever that family and friends notify the church of any hospital admission. Our goal remains that pastoral visits are made within twenty-four hours of being informed of a hospital stay.

To report that a parishioner is in the hospital, call the church at 314-721-1502 during business hours and the emergency clergy cell phone at 314-602-2070 on evenings and weekends.

Community of Hope - COH

The Community of Hope is a Christian community of lay chaplains, united in prayer, shaped by Benedictine spirituality and equipped for pastoral ministry. Lay chaplains are taught a ministry of presence, to bring the presence of Christ to the suffering. In St. Louis, the Church of St. Michael & St. George serves as a training center for the Community of Hope. Apart from clergy visitation, the majority of our at-home parish visits are now handled by the COH lay chaplains.

Lay Eucharistic Visitors - LEVs

Christy James, Coordinator
Our Lay Eucharistic Visitors continue a ministry of taking communion directly from the Sunday services to those, who for health reasons, cannot make it to a Sunday service.

Heavenly Meals

Our team of culinary caregivers continue to quietly provide meals for parishioners in the midst of challenging times, such as the arrival of a new baby, a health crisis, or a move. To request assistance or to join the team, please contact the Rev. Mike Wheeler.

St. Michael’s Knitting Ministry

The St. Michael’s Knitting Ministry celebrated its sixth birthday in July. Its mission is to offer tangible and spiritual love, comfort and prayers to fellow parishioners and friends through knitted objects - Mantles of Comfort, Baby Blankets of Love and Chemo Caps.

Currently there are 50 knitters, and we have knitted and given away over 200 mantles, 100 baby blankets and several chemo caps. Canterbury Bookstore has kits for the knitted objects and Resource Books about St. Michael’s Knitting Ministry. There is a section in the Sant Library on knitting. Prayerful knitting nurtures the knitters as well as the recipients of the knitted objects. Experienced knitters are welcome, as well as those who are new to such practice. Contact Nicki Gillis or Heidi Dowgwillo at the Church if you are interested in joining the Knitting Ministry.
