S. William Aitken is a native of Kingsport, Tennessee, He is a graduate of Davidson College in North Carolina and of Union Theological Seminary in New York City. Aitken also participated in summer choral studies at New College, Oxford and Claire College, Cambridge. He is a member of the American Guild of Organists and the Association of Anglican Musicians. From 1968-1984 he was the Organist and Choirmaster of Trinity Presbyterian Church in University City, where he was responsible for their music program and installed a new Casavant Organ. Following that position, Aitken became the Organist and Choirmaster at St Peter’s Episcopal Church, Ladue from 1984-2015, where he established a significant music program of church services, recitals and concerts. The St Peter’s Choir made three trips to England, singing in the major cathedrals there. The choir has recorded three CD’s of choral music. Aitken was responsible for the installation at St Peter’s of a major tracker pipe organ by Mander Organs of London, England and for a Portative Pipe Organ, also by Mander Organs. These instruments are featured on a CD from Regent Records. During this time (1979-2005) Aitken was also the Organist and Choirmaster of the large Reform Jewish Congregation-Temple Shaare Emeth.
