As you may have seen in the news, Sumner High School will not reopen for the ‘25/’26 school year because of damage from the May 16 tornado.  Teachers, staff and students will be relocated to Stevens Middle School which is vacant and located at 1033 Whittier.
This is a troublesome time for Sumner.  The students who are rising seniors were excited about their senior year and had plans for their school and their community. Some of these young people have lost their homes as well as their school. As many as 2000 young people in St. Louis have been displaced by the tornado.
Sumner is being packed up this week, and staff will move into the building next week.  They will need help setting up classrooms and making the school welcoming for the students.  Volunteers will be needed next week to support staff in preparing the school for the first day of school on August 18, less than a month away.
If you are interested in giving a couple of hours of time in the next few weeks to help Sumner relocate, please let me know (314-726 5860 or microann@outlook.com).  I am happy to take you with me as we find our way into this new neighborhood.  Recruit your friends.
The Sumner principal Dr. Wallace will inform me on Friday, July 25, of what times volunteers will be needed.  I will contact those interested at that time to set up a schedule.
The Peace of the Lord be with you,
Mary Ann Cook
