Our commitment

Every person who comes to St. Michael & St. George, whether a child, a youth, or an adult, should be safe, welcomed, and respected. Protecting the people in our care is part of how we live out our baptismal promise to respect the dignity of every human being.

Following the Diocese of Missouri’s policies

The Episcopal Diocese of Missouri requires every congregation to follow two policies: the Policy for the Protection of Children and Youth and the Policy for the Protection of Vulnerable Adults. St. Michael & St. George follows both. Together they cover how we screen and train the people who serve, how we supervise our ministries, and how we respond when someone has a concern.

How we screen and train

  • Clergy, staff, and volunteers in roles with children, youth, or vulnerable adults go through screening before they begin. This includes a public records check, and for many roles a written application, an interview, and reference checks.
  • Public records checks are repeated at least every five years.
  • Anyone who drives for a church program must have a satisfactory driving record check.
  • Those who serve in these ministries complete Safe Church training, and that training is renewed every three years.
