Dear Parishioners,
Thank you for your continued prayers and patience.
Following last week’s Vestry meeting, we want to share an update regarding the future of St. Michael’s Episcopal Day School.
Over the past few weeks, we have received feedback from both the school and church communities – through email, in-person meetings, and the recent Town Hall held in the Great Hall. In the spirit of transparency, we want to share the result of our continued deliberations.
On Monday, May 11, representatives from the school and school board presented to the Vestry to ensure we were all operating with the same enrollment and financial information. With a decision of this importance, we also welcomed Bishop Deon Johnson and Canon Doris Westfall to share their perspective and offer their prayers.
After the presentation and Q&A concluded, the Vestry deliberated for several hours, but ultimately concluded that there is not a viable long-term path forward. As such, the Vestry has determined that The Church of St. Michael and St. George will cease funding operational expenses for St. Michael’s Episcopal Day School, effective June 30, 2026. Additionally, CSMSG will forgive the school any existing loan advances in full. The infant-JK program will continue to operate normally.
The meeting minutes and a summary timeline of this process are available on the church’s website and at the bottom of this email.
Please know that your voices in this decision matter. We understand this has been a difficult time for the students, families, teachers, and staff who are most impacted. Over the next few weeks, we will work together with the school and school families to provide resources, connections, and referrals to help identify alternative educational placements.
We are committed to honoring the dignity and needs of this community. Our ultimate hope is that we can move forward with transparency, peace, and trust as we work together for this dedicated and passionate church community.
Thank you,
