Organ Installation — Week One

The Schoenstein & Co. organ is taking shape. Watch as the first week of installation unfolds in the Main Church — wind chests rising into the chambers, the first pedal pipes finding their places, and the new chancel blower making its journey to its new home in the basement.Watch a time lapse of the work done on week 1 here:
The organ will have five divisions — Great, Swell, Choir, Pedal, and Nave — spread throughout the chancel and transepts, with wind routed through newly constructed pathways beneath the church floor. Two blowers will power the instrument: one for the chancel, one for the nave. The Great division’s new cases are expected to be installed in mid-September, while the Swell and Choir divisions take shape in their respective chambers, and the Nave division will make its home in the existing antiphonal case, preserving the familiar facade pipes as decoration.
This is only the beginning. Stay tuned for weekly updates as the organ continues to grow.
A Note on Access
Because organ components currently fill the Main Church and St. George’s Chapel is serving as secure storage for tools and equipment, both spaces are unavailable during the week. The one exception: the Main Church remains open for the 8 AM and 10 AM Sunday services. Outside of those two services, please plan to worship in the Taylor Room while installation is underway.

Schoenstein & Co.’s team will spend the coming weeks assembling the instrument piece by piece. We’ll keep sharing updates here as the organ comes together.
